If you have checked out many sites, you've probably stumbled upon some error message now and again. An error can take place when the hosting server cannot process a request (Error 400), if you must log in to see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you aren't able to access some webpage (Error 403) or when a link leads to a file which is not on the server (Error 404). Getting this sort of messages can often be frustrating since the pages have nothing in common with the actual site. That’s why some web hosting companies permit you to use your own error pages which will match the style of your own site and that may have any content which you would like - information why the error has taken place, a suggestion how to proceed or even some amusing comment. This sort of feature shall help you keep the visitor on the website whatever the error or the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

If you obtain a cloud hosting plan from our company, you will be able to set customized error pages for your sites quickly and easily, since this feature is part of all our plans. Once you've created the files and uploaded them to your website hosting account, you should check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and click on the Edit button for the particular domain or subdomain. In the pop-up which will be displayed, you shall see drop-down menus for all 4 kinds of errors and for each of them you could select an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a tailor-made page. In case you select the third option, you should only enter the URL to the file that you have uploaded and save the change. Another way to set custom error pages is to set up an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder and to add several lines of code in it. If you do not have previous experience or if you are just uncertain how to do that, you can just copy/paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that matter.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you may set customized error pages for any of them easily through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With several clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you can modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for each of the four error types. All you need to do is provide a link to every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you shall be able to revert this change anytime and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded within the domain or subdomain folder belonging to the internet site whose error pages you would like to change and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
